Processing Laboratory
The main stage of the **umbilical cord blood stem cell storage process**, after sample transfer, is the **isolation of stem cells** using both manual and automatic methods (Sepax system). The process of umbilical cord blood stem cell isolation in the processing laboratory takes place after an initial assessment of the received blood sample (in terms of weight, volume, initial cell count, and confirmation of its suitability for freezing or contract termination). A review of past years' statistics indicates an **increase in the average recovery of stored cells**, which is considered one of the most important quality indicators. This indicator rose from 74.3% in **2011 (1390 Iranian calendar)** to 84% in **2021 (1400 Iranian calendar)**. Reasons for this improvement include a reduction in the time from sample collection to the start of the isolation process, improved performance quality of blood collectors, enhanced quality of incoming samples, updated equipment and isolation methods used, and increased skill and experience of personnel working in this section.
