Serum eye drops were first used in **1975** to treat chemical burns of the corneal eye. Umbilical cord blood serum is rich in growth factors essential for epithelial and ocular vascular repair, Vitamin A, antibacterial agents like IgG and IgM, lysozyme, EGF, FGF, PDGF, NGF, TGF, and VEGF. These eye drops prevent allergic reactions and immunogenicity because they are free of any preservatives. Serum eye drops derived from umbilical cord blood contain **2-3 times more growth factors** than autologous blood serum and tears, and are used in treating various corneal-related diseases such as severe dry eye, primary Sjögren's syndrome, persistent epithelial defects, recurrent corneal erosion, chemical burns, neurotrophic keratitis, after LASIK surgery, and after corneal transplantation.
